January 5th, 2009 at 18:05:53 Yes, I am willing to oppose discrimination. But marriage is between a man and a woman. That's not discriminatory. It just is the definition. Beyond that I am open to being kind and respectful to all my neighbors.
January 5th, 2009 at 18:28:52 If you are unwilling at all to see my concerns and the concerns of millions of others, and are unwilling to compromise at all, and we just won the issue in a free and fair election, then why are we even having a discussion?
January 5th, 2009 at 18:51:51 I dont believe in compromising on the fundamental pillar of American society. EQUALITY FOR ALL MEN AND WOMEN. As a Christian I can stand for nothing less buddy, Im sorry u cant understand that...
January 5th, 2009 at 19:14:50 so what do u say? as a black man. as a mormon. as an american. can u stand with me, a gay christian, against prejudice and the perpetuation of discrimination that has no place in 21st century America???!
January 5th, 2009 at 19:37:49 Ideas matter. Personalities don't. Forget the messenger, examine the message. Elton John's message is to compromise. You were earlier extolling the virtues of compromise. What are you willing to compromise?
January 5th, 2009 at 20:00:48 woops! I meant throw, not *through.. getting late, sorry 0:)
January 5th, 2009 at 20:23:47 PPL all over the world have been inspired by the black struggle for freedom. This shouldnt be an insult, or a 'riding of the coat tails'. I believe it should be something you embrace and are proud of as a Black man. but I feel u through that right away by perpetuating prejudice yourself...
January 5th, 2009 at 20:46:46 dude, in case u havent noticed I am not responding to the elton john thing cause i dont care. do u think because i am gay that I am inclined to follow other gays? it is prejudice and assumptive to suggest that...BTW did u know Al Sharpton supports gay marriage? Barack opposed the passing of 8, and again, so does the NAACP. why dont u get on board with them, your black right? thats what u just did to me... just because u are black doesnt mean ur immune to being PREJUDICE!
January 5th, 2009 at 21:09:45 Elton John gets it. Google "elton john prop 8". That is the compromise. Compromise involves both sides giving something. I have explained the compromise that is restored by Prop 8.
January 5th, 2009 at 21:32:44 No one is saying it is exactly the same but you here. Just as religious discrim is different from racial discrim & orientation differs from the latter, its still ALL discrimination. But lets remember that gay ppl were being persecuted b4 blacks were even enslaved. They were also in the nazi concentration camps. Even the NAACP said today on CNNthat they are working to overturn prop 8 and that it IS a civil rights issue, and they believe blck ppl were decieved in the campaign. DID U KNOW THAT?
January 5th, 2009 at 21:55:43 And Even South Africa Has Gay Marriage, citing that it is a civil right.
January 5th, 2009 at 22:18:42 To compare this to civil rights for Black Americans is wrong. Gays were not subjected to slavery. Gays were not disenfranchised. Again, Prop 8 is not like separate facilities for blacks and whites. It is like separate restrooms for men and women.
January 5th, 2009 at 22:41:41 Im sorry u feel I am greedy for wanting to marry according to me own religious beliefs. please keep in mind, I am Christian, and the constitution of Cali just prevented me from exercising my religious right to marry according to MY religious beliefs. But I dont think its fair to be told that u are SUPERIOR to me, just because more ppl agree with your religious views. and u did tell me that.
January 5th, 2009 at 23:04:40 Even France concluded in a bipartisan commission that marriage should remain as man/woman. They said gay marriage puts the desires of adults above the needs of children.
January 5th, 2009 at 23:27:39 Im sorry u made a mistake, the vote of the ppl does not make your definition superior any more than a vote to keep u working on a plantation, picking cotton, makes a slave owner superior to you. It is judgment that is in question here. The judges of our democracy judged accordingly. They were overthrown by slim majority of prejudice voters. This will be corrected by the courts again when prop 8 is ruled to be illegal.
January 6th, 2009 at 23:50:38 Barack Obama might say that he might have wanted a mom n dad, he didnt say he needed one. Not every1 has a mom n dad, but there are plenty of ppl who do and are non the better off. Cause its really about love. That seems to be a difficult concept for mormons to grasp. My opinion is because they havent truley seen it. Deep down they all know they will be rejected by the churcg if they were...
January 6th, 2009 at 00:13:37 There already was a compromise where both sides gave something. Gays got domestic partnerships with all the same rights as married couples. And marriage was left as man/woman. Then 4 activist judges in May 2008 got greedy and illegally legislated from the bench. Prop 8 restored the balance.
January 6th, 2009 at 00:36:36 "What makes yours superior?" Vote of the people. That's why it was on the ballot. Prop 8 passed. All this discussion is interesting, but is a little late.
January 6th, 2009 at 00:59:35 I imagine that Barack Obama would agree that children need a mom and a dad. Feel free to argue your case that either a mom or a dad is superfluous and can be discarded. Both are valuable in the development of a child. Gay marriage is not a civil right. It isn't even about marriage. It is about control. It isn't even about acceptance of homosexual lifestyle. It is about wanting *approval* for a personal choice of deviant behavior. Getting APPROVAL from others for your choice is not a right.
January 6th, 2009 at 01:22:34 This is why no1 from the gay community will bother talking to the official mormon position on this subject. they have stated that they are not given to reason or able to compromise. you are illustrating that position by constantly ignoring every sensible answer.
January 6th, 2009 at 01:45:33 u are talking about a pilots license still cause u have nothing else to say. its obvious to any1 reading.
January 6th, 2009 at 02:08:32 So, u think u are a better person than Barack Obama because u had a mom n dad present and u didnt? Again, it doesnt matter IF U FEEL ITS A CIVIL RIGHTS ISSUE. according to the CA constitution it is.
January 6th, 2009 at 02:31:31 Offended or not, the constitution does not give you the right to receive a pilot's license for driving a car. Prop 8 is part of the Constitution. It specifically clarifies that marriage is man/woman. If other parts of the constitution were vague and unclear, the new black and white letter text of Prop 8 clears it all up. So I guess as of Nov 4 the debate is over until another Prop is before the People.
January 6th, 2009 at 02:54:30 u have not given 1 reason why a marriage is solely btwn a man and a women other than that u describe it as such, and a simple majority agrees. even if a vast majority agrees it doesnt change the fact and historical definition of the word. Gay marriages have takin place in both the early christian church as well as before it. what you'r doing is describing your religious views of marriage. My view of marriage is when 2 people love each other n make a commitment b4 God. What makes yours superior?
January 6th, 2009 at 03:17:29 Prop 8 is not a civil rights issue. Prop 8 is not like separate facilities for blacks and whites. Prop 8 is like separate restrooms for men and women. Men and women are different. Both are essential. Children need both a mom and a dad. That's why marriage is defined as man/woman. If you disagree, write a Prop for 2010 that says "the state shall record 'marriage' to mean whatever anybody wants it to mean".
