Here's a clip of Soft Machine on French Television from 1970. This is my favourite incarnation of the band. Robert Wyatt, Elton Dean, Hugh Hopper, & Mike Ratledge...a few months before Robert left to form Matching Mole. Excellent group interplay and Wyatt at his best on vocals. Elton died last month, so this clip is dedicated to his memory.

There were two students taught by Mr.Paul Tortelier. One was Mr. Philippe Cherond from France. The other person was Miss Akiko Kanamru from Japan. She is a friend of mine via Japans' internet web site"MIXI". From conversations with her by "MIXI", I found out she owned these film clips and strongly desired that as many people as possible could watch these wonderful videos. So I advised her to share this video on Youtube, and I uploaded these for her. Akiko Kanamaru San now belongs to the Zurich Opera House Orchestra and .plays Violoncello. The charm of traditional Chinese music interpreted by Liu Fang on pipa (Chinese lute or guitar)with four strings and guzheng (Chinese zither or harp)with 21 strings spanned over movable bridges. Liu Fang has achieved international reputation for her masterful and deeply spirited playing of Chinese pipa and guzheng music from the traditional Chinese classical repertoire. The video clip is an extract (4min.) from a documentary by CBC TV (BravoCanada) broadcasted on January 12, 2008, 8:30pm about a collaboration ("The Long Song Project") between three world class musicians. In this clip, Madame Lorraine Chalifoux, highly-respected producer of Radio-Canada for traditional and classical music talks about Liu Fang and her music. About the music in this video: The guzheng solo is an adaptation of the traditional guqin (古琴) solo "Three variation of plum blossom"(梅花三弄)； Pipa solo is an extract from the "King Chu doffs his armour"(霸王卸甲).
